We made our food pantry a drive-thru only operation for the safety of guests and staff.
Give a can, or give a coin?
If Betty Jo had to pay what you pay at your favorite grocery store for the groceries we have distributed so far this year, it would cost us over $535,000. Praise God, we don’t have to pay that! Betty Jo has negotiated deep discounts only a family member could get with a couple of large grocery stores. It is through Feed More and the local stores that we get most of the food we distribute, and your generous monetary support makes these purchases possible. Thank you!
The food drives your family, churches, businesses and neighborhoods have hosted play a big part as well, and we need more of them. Thank you! As much as we truly appreciate and still depend upon your donations of canned and boxed goods, we discourage purchasing most food items on our behalf. As a partner agency, food items that are not already free to us through Feed More, can often be purchased through them in bulk for as little as the cost of a single item you might purchase at a local grocery store, and it is delivered on pallets to our pantry. The canned tuna with a pop top that is popular with our homeless friends costs you $0.68 to $1.29 per can. At $0.68 for a case of 24 cans, Betty Jo ordered as many as they would send! One can vs. one case of the same tuna for $0.68. We still need the tuna and lots of other items, but if you are planning to purchase them for us, we can increase the impact of your precious dollars exponentially if you will send us the funds instead. Regardless of how you support this ministry, thank you! Please don’t stop!
We accept the following items at our pantry ONLY by appointment.
Please do not drop off donations when we're closed:
Canned Goods - apples, beefaroni, beans, beets, chicken, chili, fruit cocktail, lasagna, peaches, ravioli, spaghetti, stew, tuna, vienna sausages, soups
Dry Goods - beans, cereal, pasta, peas, rice, ketchup, mustard, peanut butter, sugar

Brrrrr! Thanks to Debbie, Mary, Tobie and Dan and the regular crew for showing up this cold morning to finish packing bags and loading cars. The burn barrel got a workout. 50 families (123 people) came through to get groceries. Everyone wished us a Happy New Year! We heard stories from many guests that lost power last weeks for 4 days. They were so thankful when it came back!
Say a prayer for C.F. who will have surgery on Friday to implant a pacemaker. She is hopeful that her energy level will improve. F.C. will have a pet scan on Tuesday and a biopsy on Wednesday to determine what the options are for her cancer. We miss seeing her and her family but she’s just moving too slowly.
I know “thank you” seems like such a simple thing to say but Moments of Hope does thank you for all you do to keep this ministry alive!
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you: He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Five families, 13 people. Why do we go for that few people? Because those 13 need food. Simple. Weather stinks. One lives in his truck but will not take a hotel room even in these conditions. One lives in a hotel and works on Saturdays. One never knows when she can get to us. One was a first timer. One was a return visit for the second time. That's why we do this. There is a story behind every person we serve.

We could not be more proud of our amazing pantry volunteers! They put their heart and soul into making our pantry guests feel loved and valued, and Hanover County acknowledged their efforts during their Spirit of Volunteerism Award celebration by presenting them with the Spirit of Team Award. Though the award says "team", they've truly become a family. We are truly grateful for the time and resources each our pantry volunteers contributes to our Mo Hope Pantry!
